The Border Security Force (BSF), on Monday, claimed to have recovered 10-kg heroin worth Rs 50 crore in the international market, 4 pistols, 7 pistol magazines, 95 rounds and 2 Pakistan mobile phones with 2 Pak SIM cards in the Dharma border outpost (BoP) area in the sector.
RK Thapa, DIG, Ferozepur range, said, “On Monday night at about 7.30 pm, BSF troops of the 87 Battalion observed suspicious movement of some miscreants near the border security fence. After some time, the troops noticed some packets being thrown over the fence. The troops challenged the miscreants to surrender. However, the miscreants, who could be Pakistani smugglers, did not heed the challenges and, instead, opened fire on the troops. The troops also retaliated by firing. However, smugglers managed to escape taking the cover of standing paddy crop.”
He said, during search of the area, 10 one-kg packets of heroin, 3 pistols, 5 pistol magazines, 73 rounds and 2 Pak mobile phones with 2 Pak SIM Cards were recovered on lying near the fence on the Indian side. On further search of the area, 1 pistol, 2 pistol magazines and 22 rounds more were also recovered.
