BSF personnel seized 2 kg of heroin and Rs 9.92 lakh in fake Indian currency near the Muthianwala border outpost in the Ferozepur sector on Wednesday.
A press release issued by the BSF stated that on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, BSF troops deployed on the border noticed the movement of three Pakistani smugglers on the international border.
The smugglers moved inside the Indian territory and started throwing the contraband over the fence. The ambush party challenged them, but the smugglers resorted to firing on BSF troops. The ambush party also fired back in self-defence.
However, the smugglers managed to escape under the cover of tall wheat crops and bamboos.
Later, the area was searched and two packets of heroin and three packets of fake currency in the denomination of Rs 500 were recovered.
