A BSF man of 47 Battalion shot dead a 33-year-old Pakistani intruder at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district on Saturday night. A BSF constable Sitara Singh posted at 'Burji' No 42 spotted a man crawling in a wheat field trying to cross over from Pakistan to India at around 8 pm.
Gurdaspur BSF Deputy Inspector General PS Bains, while addressing a press conference at Dera Baba Nanak on Sunday, said that when the Pakistani intruder came in the range of border fencing lights, he opened fire on the BSF constable Sitara Singh deployed at the BSF chowki there with his pistol.
Bains said that then the BSF constable returned fire killing him on the spot. Two bullets hit the deceased on the head and one on left shoulder. Bains said that the body remained lying in the wheat field throughout the night and it was recovered on day-break on Sunday.
He told that the BSF recovered a Sitara make 9 MM pistol with 8 live cartridges, three unused U-Fone SIMs and one used Telenor SIM from the deceased.
