Activists of the joint forum of BSNL Executives and Non-Executives Union's Association on Tuesday held lunch-hour demonstrations against the proposal of the telecom commission to increase the foreign direct investment (FDI) limit in telecom sector to 100% and against disinvestment in the Neyveli Lignite Corporation.

Addressing the protesters, Balwinder Singh, district secretary, BSNL Employees Union, said it was a matter of great concern that the telecom commission had recommended to increase FDI in telecom sector from current 74% to 100%.

He said this decision would pave way for the total takeover of the Indian private telecom companies by multinational companies, which will create a serious security threat to the nation.
Singh said the home ministry had already expressed its concern over increasing the FDI in sensitive sectors such as telecom, defence, media and civil aviation.
