Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Sunday took the lead by announcing its first candidate for the 2017 Punjab assembly elections. Gurlal Saila will contest from the Chabbewal constituency in Hoshiarpur. The party said the senior BSP leader’s candidature will be formally announced during a state-level party rally scheduled to be held at Chabbewal on September 19.
Narinder Kashyap, national general secretary of the party, while addressing the party workers, said he has nominated Saila’s name for the 2017 elections and the party high command has accepted his candidature.
“Soon the party will reveal its list of all the candidates to give a strong fight to the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (SAD-BJP) and Congress in the upcoming assembly elections,” he said.
He said a mega rally would be held at Chabewal on September 19, which would strengthen the roots of the party in the state.
“The party workers have already been preparing for the rally,” he said, adding, “Meetings at nearby villages are being organised to interact with the public and workers are urging them to participate in the mega rally,” Kashyap said.
