High drama was witnessed at a local hotel on Thursday night after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) councillor Jannat Jahan accused four “drunken” youths of harassing her. The councillor, after attending a Sufi event with her family and friends, was on way out when these youths allegedly misbehaved and thrashed her.

However, investing officer Ishwar Singh said, “We have received written complaints from both the parties, and are still probing the matter. We have conducted medical of the complainant.”

In her complaint, the councillor stated, “The boys had a weapon, and misbehaved with my family.” She also requested the police to probe the CCTV footage, and take suitable action.

Later, talking to HT on Friday, she said, “These four youths sloshed and grabbed my hand while pulling me towards them, and that’s when I abused. Pointing a pistol towards me, they said they are Khattar’s (Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar) nephews. After that, they hit me with the pistol butt, and even thrashed my husband.”

However, later at about 3am, two girls complained to the police that they were harassed by Jahan and her family members. “A written complaint has been submitted by Chandigarh resident Mehak Bansal, 23, and Panchkula resident Pammy, who is about 30-32 years,” added the police. Meanwhile, the councillor also alleged involvement of a son of a Panchkula-based politician. Jahan was being approached to resolve the matter through compromise, claimed sources.

Initially, the police said the CCTV footage of the hotel would be procured to find out the truth, while later they claimed the CCTV cameras of the sixth floor hadn’t been working for the past two days.
