Members of the district unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), on Monday, held a protest and burnt an effigy of BJP for using picture of Kanshi Ram on posters during a march organised at Hoshiarpur a few weeks ago.

They termed this attempt a cheap gimmick to woo dalit voters. The protest was led by state general secretary Sukhwinder Singh Kotli and district president Kamaldev Jandusingha. Addressing the gathering, Kotli said, "This is a cheap gimmick by the party which has nothing in agenda for uplifting the dalits.

By using the picture of Kanshi Ram, they had tried to fool the voters. Otherwise, this saffron party had never left any opportunity to seize the legal rights of dalits."

The leaders also called for an action against the BJP state president who had said in the statement that Kanshi Ram was not the property of any political party.

"As BJP has never thought of uplift of the dalits, they had no moral right to use the picture of Babuji, who is an idol and beacon for our party," Kotli said.

The party also attacked chairman Punjab scheduled castes commission and a BJP leader Rajesh Bagha for misguiding the party for adopting such tactics.
