A budding radio journalist Amritbir Singh, 22, committed suicide by hanging himself at office of a private radio channel, which operates in Australia, situated at Mall Road on Friday morning.
Amritbir was from Mukatsar and did his graduation in journalism from Punjabi University. He was working as an anchor with the Punjabi radio channel of Australia, apart from contributing in Punjab newspapers printed in different parts of the world.
The reason behind the suicide had not been ascertained but it was said that the victim was under depression from the past 10 days. He was living alone here.
According to the information, he left his house at around 10pm on Thursday to prepare a script for the radio prorgamme, which would have been aired in Australia at 3.30am. However, before that he committed suicide by hanging himself with the fan in the studio.
Another radio jokey, who had to join his duty at 4am, found him hanging and informed the police.
Civil Lines station house officer inspector Gurpartap Singh said no suicide note was recovered and the body was handed over to victim's parents after the postmortem.
