After getting the stick from the municipal corporation commissioner, the officials of building branch have sprung into action against illegal structures coming up in various parts of the city.
As part of a drive, the MC officials took action against 21 such commercial structures in residential areas on Friday.
Several residents had been complaining about illegal constructions across the city. However, MC officials had been reportedly sitting on their hands.
In the drive on Friday, MC teams led by building inspectors of Zone D demolished the illegal shops in Kitchlu Nagar, Haibowal, Churpur Road, Luxmi Nagar and Model Town Extension.
Arun Khanna, a building inspector, said, “We demolished majority of 12 illegal shops on Churpur Road. Besides, we also took action against three illegal shops in Kitchlu Nagar.”
He said these structures were raised in residential areas in violation of the building bylaws.
Besides Khanna, building inspectors Manpreet Kaur, Tarun Kumar, Harjit Singh, R Walia and Nirmaljit Singh were also part of the MC teams.
WOMAN Residents stage protest
Meanwhile, some woman residents of Haibowal in ward number 28 staged a protest and tried to stop the MC team from demolishing illegal structures in the area.
Due to unavailability of women police, the MC team returned without demolishing two illegal structures.
Area councillor Maharaj Singh visited the spot and assured the MC officials that the violators would themselves demolish the illegal construction within the next 10 days.
