Police finally registered a case of murder two days after the semi-decomposed body of an investor was found in the nullah running between Sectors 16 and 23. The police registered a case of murder under Section 302 only after arresting a Burail resident in this regard. The police claim Krishan Kumar was killed over a financial dispute.
Police arrested a resident of Burail Karan on Saturday. The police also recovered the victim’s missing vehicle from Sector 34 on the same day. Karan claimed Kumar had invested his money, Rs 3.5 lakh, but failed to get returns. Despite repeatedly asking for his money, Kumar failed to return both the basic money and the interest.
DSP central, Ashish Kapoor, said a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code had been registered and Karan had admitted to the crime.
Since day one, the victim's family had been claiming that Kumar was killed but the police had initiated inquest proceedings. The police zeroed in on Karan after scrutinising Kumar's call details which showed frequent calls between them two days before the body was discovered.
Sunil Kumar, the victim's son, said the police had arrested Karan but the family did not know him. On July 15, when Kumar went to Dera Bassi, he was accompanied by a person whom the family suspects to be Karan.
Krishan Kumar (43), a private investor, went missing on July 15 when he left for court for some official work. A missing complaint was lodged by his family with the local police when he did not return. The family of the victim suspected Kumar may have been killed over a monetary dispute. Kumar had got residents to invest in a private company but the company officials escaped after embezzling the funds.
