A private bus conductor slapped a woman constable in public on Tuesday evening at Tapa in Barnala district.

The police have registered a case under sections 342 (harming woman's modesty) and 323 of the IPC against bus conductor Jaspinder Singh. The police also impounded the bus after the incident happened around 6:30pm.

Sources in the police department said the private bus belonged to the Orbit group. Deputy superintendent of police Harvinder Singh said the woman constable was going back to her place in the bus (PB 03D 6125) when she entered into a verbal duel with the conductor over ticket. The police said the conductor used abusive language against the constable and asked her to get down if she didn't have the ticket, before slapping her.

Fellow passengers overpowered the conductor and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
