Bus driving on wrong side rams car, elderly NRI couple killed

An NRI octogenarian couple was killed, while two others suffered serious injuries, after a private bus being driven on the wrong side of the road allegedly rammed into their car head-on at Shekhupura village at Ludhiana-Ferozepur road on Monday.

The injured were rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where their condition is stated to be critical. The bus driver, who managed to flee the spot, has been booked for causing deaths due to negligence.

The deceased have been identified as Khushwinder Singh, 87, and Harbans Kaur, 86, of Mansiha Bhaike village of Jagraon.

The Canadian citizens were going to Delhi in a Toyota Innova car to board a flight to return to Canada.
The injured victims are car driver Jagroop Singh of Dalla village and the couple's relative, Davinder Singh.

The couple had paid obeisance at Gurdwara Shri Nanaksar Sahib before leaving for Delhi.

As the car reached at Ludhiana-Ferozepur road near Shekhupura village, a private bus which was plying on the wrong side, hit the car from the front. The impact of the collision was such that the victims' car was completely damaged.

Some of Congress workers, who were passing by, stopped and rushed the victims to DMCH, where the elderly couple succumbed to their injuries.
