Two teenagers were killed after they were hit by a private bus on the Patiala-Samana road on Sunday, after which an angry mob set the vehicle on fire and blocked road, leading to long traffic jam on the route for around an hour.

The deceased were identified as Gurjit Singh, 18 and Baljinder Singh, 17, both residents of Chaouhat village near Samana.

The incident happened around 7pm on Sunday. The deceased were coming back to their home from the relative's house when an over-speeding private bus rammed their vehicle near Paharpur village.

A pall of gloom descended at their native places. "Both the children were close friends and were studying in the same school. They had gone to purchase study material for exams and halted at some relative's place on their way", said one of the family members.

Gurjit Singh died on the spot, while Baljinder succumbed to injuries on his way to Rajindera hospital. The police have registered an FIR against the driver and the conductor of the bus under sections 304A and 279 of IPC.
