The victim has been identified as Manpreet Kaur, a resident of Birk village and student of Shaheed Sukhdev Public School.
According to reports, after reaching school, Kaur left her school bag in the class and went to drink water. While she was passing through the school ground, a driver, who was parking a bus there, ran over her.
Kaur was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where she was declared brought dead.
After getting information of the mishap, victim's parents and villagers reached the school. But the principal allegedly closed the school gates and did not allow anyone in. It was only after the intervention of village sarpanch that the gates were opened.
Meanwhile, police reached the spot and initiated investigation. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Joga Singh of Sidhwan Bet police station, said the police arrested the bus driver, Baljeet Singh, from the school and booked him under section 304A (causing death due to negligence).
