The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has asked Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) to lower the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) Examinations fee and cancel last Sunday's test for the recruitment of food and civil supplies inspectors.

The fee, Rs 3,000 for general-category candidates, was exorbitant, and on Sunday, most candidates had failed to reach the examination centres because of massive traffic jams, said the party. "The Punjab government is making it harder for the brilliant students of Punjab to enter the PCS," AAP district president Kudan Gogia said during a press conference here on Tuesday."

In his memorandum to the commission secretary, the AAP has asked for another test to select food and civil supplies inspectors, "looking at the large-scale mismanagement during its holding on Sunday".

"Instead of making 300 examination centres only in Chandigarh, SAS Nagar and Panchkula, the government should hold the test at all district headquarters," the AAP representative said. For the 461 posts, 3.21-lakh candidates had applied. "It highlights the quantum of unemployment in the state," Gogia added.

The APP didn't want the unemployed youth to be hassled again, so no fee be collected from them during re-examination, the AAP district president said.
