Cane crushing begins; Shahabad mill eyeing national award again

The 30th crushing season of the Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd, Shahabad, in the district began on Tuesday, with an ambitious plan to achieve technical efficiency award at the national level for 2013-14 also.

The 30th crushing season of the Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd, Shahabad, in the district began on Tuesday, with an ambitious plan to achieve technical efficiency award at the national level for 2013-14 also.


Anil Dhantori, chairman, Haryana Bureau of Public Enterprises and MLA, Shahabad (M), inaugurated the crushing season and put the sugarcane in the 'cane donga' crushing machine in the presence of Nikhal Gajraj, deputy commissioner-cum-chairman of Shahabad Sugar Mills; Devinder Kaushik, managing director, Shahabad Coop. Sugar Mills; board of directors, mill officials and farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhantori said the mill has fixed the crushing target of 70 lakh quintal for 2013-14. The sugar recovery target is fixed 10.3% and the mill is expected to produce approximate 7.21 lakh quintal of sugar as against 5.98 lakh quintal sugar produced during last crushing season.

The target of export of 5 crore units has also been fixed against the 407.43 lakh units produced during last season. He said as per government policy, farmers would be paid `301 per quintal for early cane variety, `295 per quintal for mid-cane variety and `290 per quintal for late cane variety.

The mill had prepared an ambitious cane development plan of `11.62 crore for the 2014-15 crushing season for farmers of the mill's assigned area in which interest free cane seed loan and other incentives would be given to farmers. He added that in order to ensure accuracy and transparency, the mill has installed a man-less weighing system in the cane yard. Timely cane payment will be made to farmers through banks. The first three farmers who brought sugarcane to the mill through truck, tractor-trolley and 'buggi' were given prizes by the chief guest, Anil Dhantori, and Kurukshetra deputy commissioner Nikhal Gajraj.

The deputy commissioner, who is also chairman of sugar mill said the mill has achieved first prize in technical efficiency at national level for 2012-13 and this year also the management and workers are making all out efforts to achieve the award.

The managing director of the mill, Devinder Kaushik, gave details of the facilities being given to farmers by the mill. Kaushik also requested the farmers to bring fresh cane without tops to the Mills during crushing season. The MD assured that the sugarcane of farmers of the assigned area would be crushed well in time and farmers would face no problem during the crushing season.
