Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday sought probe into fake encounters and extra-judicial killings that took place during militancy in Punjab.
Referring to revelations made by controversial Punjab Police ‘cat’-turned-dismissed cop Gurmeet Singh Pinky that a number of innocent people were killed without trial during militancy in Punjab, Amarinder demanded the dismissal of Sumedh Singh Saini, former state police chief, who is chairman of the Punjab Police Housing Corporation, and his trial for murder.
“There should be a high-level inquiry into the revelations made by Pinky. Who pocketed `50 lakh allegedly paid by Pinky for his reinstatement in police force,” he said while addressing a press conference along with senior party vice-president Lal Singh, former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi at the Congress Bhawan here onThursday.
Pinky has alleged that he had paid the amount for his reinstatement to a middleman and it was meant to be given to Saini.
Saini was recently removed as the state police chief following unrest over incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and police firing on protesters that killed two protesters at Behbal Kalan village in Faridkot district.
