The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday said Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh is flying abroad for a month to escape the summer heat as well as to hold fund-raising events after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi did not nominate him as the party’s chief ministerial candidate recently.
In a statement here, party general secretary Daljit Singh Cheema said Amarinder had never remained in Punjab during the summer. “He has always gone to the hills when it gets hot in the plains. This time, he is going to the United States and Canada to give the impression that he is working. But the truth is that he is going abroad in frustration after facing rejection in Punjab,” Cheema claimed.
