Echoing senior Congress leader's Avtar Singh Brar's sentiments, former MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that Captain Amarinder should take responsibility for the dismal performance of the party in the recently held elections in Punjab and resign from the post of PPCC president.
"The party workers are very disappointed after the defeat in assembly elections and they are holding state party president responsible for the debacle. Captain should take responsibility and resign," he said.
Khaira questioned Captain's policy of allotting tickets to kith and kin of leaders which led to the rebellion in the Congress party. SAD (B) president Sukhbir Badal took advantage of it and personally persuaded rebels to support the SAD candidates, while on the other hand PPCC chief did not even bother to placate the rebels and this proved costly to the Congress.
"Some party leaders are organising parties at a time when party cadres are saddened by the defeat. It is not sending good signals to the workers," Khaira lamented.
He also disagreed with the Captain's view that People's Party of Punjab was responsible for the party's defeat and blamed it on the Congress party's poor organisation of the campaign.
He revealed that some like-minded party leaders would collectively launch "Save Congress" campaign across the state which might kick off from March 19. He, however, did not disclose the names of party leaders who would be spearheading the campaign.
