Before moving to Amritsar to lock horns with the BJP vice-president Arun Jaitley in the Lok Sabha elections, former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh will do a comprehensive “fortification” for his wife Preneet Kaur, who is contesting elections for the fourth consecutive time.
Perneet is facing one of the toughest election of her political career as not only the Akali candidate Deepinder Dhillon is giving a good fight but the Aam Aadmi Party factor is also worrying Congress strategists.
Captain Singh has admitted that Preneet is facing toughest election because of anti-incumbency of three terms and the AAP factor. He had even listed it as one of the reasons in his plea to not to contest from Amritsar, citing that he wanted to help his wife Preneet Kaur, who is contesting from Patiala.
However, after the announcement of ticket from Amritsar, Captain has asked his trusted men to not to shift to Amritsar and stay in the royal city to hold the fort for Preneet.
As per plan, Captain will address a rally on March 25 to formally launch the campaign of Preneet. Organizing the rally and workers’ meet has been entrusted to PPCC vice- president Lal Singh.
He will meet key party men to devise a strategy to corner the Akalis. The Akalis are having high hopes in view of the popularity of AAP candidate Dharamvir Gandhi in the city areas, from where the Congress manage heavy lead in votes.
“Though the Congress candidate is campaigning for the last two months, Captain Amarinder Singh will formally launch the campaign with the rally. He will also hold a series of meeting with prominent leaders of the area”, said Lal Singh, PPCC vice president and organiser of event.
“I have assured Captain to go to Amritsar without any apprehensions about the Patiala seat, which the Congress will win with big margin. I will personally look into the campaign of Preneet”, he added. He said that Captain Amarinder would also spare sometime in mid of April to give a boost to the campaign.
District Congress unit president Hadial Kamboj said Amarinder had promised to address more rallies in coming days.
“Captain’s presence for a single day is more effective than one- month campaign of Parkash Singh Badal,” claimed Hardial.
