The police on Tuesday arrested Ashwani Kumar, who provided fake car number plates to the accused in the Ludhiana acid attack case. A case has also been registered against Major Singh, the shopkeeper who sold the acid used in the attack.
Inspector Harpal Singh, station house officer (SHO), Sarabha Nagar police station, said the police arrested Kumar from his shop at Fountain Chowk, Patiala. The police raided acid seller Major Singh's shop near the Bakhshiwala bus stand, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, the police produced accused Amitpal Kaur, Sunpreet Singh alias Sunny, Jaspreet Singh alias Mattu, Gurtej Singh and Rakesh Kumar in the court. The court remanded them in police custody till December 12.
Doctors diagnosed multiple fractures in Parvinder's left leg and arm. He has been admitted to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana. The court remanded him judicial custody for 14 days.
Inspector Harpal Singh said the police would take him on police remand later for questioning.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP), crime, Gurbans Singh Bains said Amitpal had been trying to flee to England. She had multiple visas and had she not been arrested for another two days, she could have escaped, he added.
The police said Parvinder wanted to open a restaurant in Patiala and had demanded Rs 10 lakh from Amitpal for the purpose as payment for carrying out the acid attack.
Harpreet Kaur, a bride, had suffered an acid attack in a local beauty salon on Saturday. Dr Sanjiv Uppal, head of the department, plastic surgery, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said she was under observation. The victim's condition is said to be stable.
