Carcasses of five ducks were found under mysterious circumstances in a lake at the state-owned Blue Bird tourist complex here on Tuesday.

Talking to mediapersons, animal husbandry department sub-divisional officer (SDO) R Sandhu said, “We took out the carcasses from the lake and sent these for autopsy to a Jalandhar laboratory to find out if they had any symptoms of bird flu.”

Meanwhile, guards at the tourist complex have been asked to ensure that no visitor goes near the lake, he added.

“We have also collected the water sample of the lake. The water also seems to be highly contaminated, which can also be the reason behind the death of the birds.” Sandhu said, while adding that they had also sought the help of the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to ascertain if the birds died of any kind of flu.
