When it comes to exhibitions, Ludhiana has always stood tall. Carnival of Joy kicked off at Park Plaza here on Saturday, bringing delight to city's shopaholics.

More than 60 women entrepreneurs from across the country have set up their stalls at the exhibition. Several visitors appreciated the variety and quality of various products displayed at the exhibition.

"I am happy to see interesting designs in various jewellery items especially earrings and bangles. Suits in vibrant colours and unique styles have truly captivated me and my friends," 26-year- old Prabhdeep Kaur, a resident of Gurdev Nagar, said.

Kaur said: "I feel proud of my city which regularly hosts different kinds of exhibitions, exposing citizens to international shopping experience."

Visitors were enthralled by royal albert and wedgwood English tea sets which also include two and three-tier cake stands. "The royal English tea culture is getting popular everywhere. I loved to see the beautiful harlequin collection of the tea set and the wedgwood cups. Had they been less expensive I would have bought them, visitor said.

Divya Dhanda, a Ludhiana-based entrepreneur, came up with the idea of this exhibition in 2006 with an aim to hone the entrepreneurship skills of women and at the same time to support Nirdosh, a local NGO, by sharing the profits of the exhibition with them.

Nirdosh is a school for physically challenged children in Ludhiana. Nirdosh spokesperson Poonam Bindra said: "Entrepreneurs should understand their social responsibility. I feel proud to promote not only women's talent but also support Nirdosh as some of the profits made in exhibition are donated to the NGO," she said.

Bindra said: "Nirdosh is more than grateful to Dhanda who brings women together on a common platform to exhibit their talent."
