On the directions of inquiry officer, Kapurthala police has quashed an FIR registered under section 66-A of IT act at sadar police station against the son of a Congress sarpanch for threatening an Akali worker on his telephone from abroad.
The sarpanch had decided to approach the court against the complainant to file suit for defamation and to seek action against the police officers who acted under political pressure.
Talking to HT, Karnail Singh, a former sarpanch of village Pakhowal revealed that on February 18, 2013, to settle political scores with his family, a villager Sukhwinder Singh got registered a case against my son Ravinder Singh, who is settled in UK.
“In his complaint, Sukhwinder Singh alleged that my son had threatened to kill him over the phone while sitting in England. Police acted under political pressure. An enquiry was conducted by the then deputy superintendent of police Paramjeet Singh, based on which a case was registered against my son to tarnish my political image. This all happened because we are the supporter of Congress,” Karnail Singh said.
Jasvir Kaur, wife of Karnail Singh, is the present sarpanch of the village as the panchayat was reserved for woman this time.
To seek justice, Karnail Singh approached senior police officials in Jalandhar and inquiry was marked to superintendent of police (Jalandhar rural) Rajinder Singh.
After a detailed enquiry, Gurmeet Singh, the enquiry officer concluded that Sukhwinder Singh, the complainant had concocted the false story under a plan. “Sukhwinder Singh was the panchayat member of opposition party when case was registered. Both the groups are not on congenial terms with each other. After going through the call details of the phones involved in the matter, it was evident that allegations are not true. If, for an instance, we consider the statement of complainant as true, then also, it becomes the case of oversees offence. The complainant also failed to prove his point in the inquiry so the case should be quashed as wrongly registered.”
Sadar Police SHO Sukha Singh, when contacted revealed, “we have filed the cancellation report to the court 10 days ago as per directions of the inquiry report.”
“Due to pressure by local Akali leadership, I was targeted by registering a false and baseless case and I am approaching court now for the proceedings of defamation suit,” Karnail Singh.
Meanwhile, local MLA Rana Gurjit Singh had asked the deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal to take action against the police officers who registered a fake case against the family of Congress sarpanch.
“This is not the only incident. Several other cases are registered where Congress workers are falsely implicated. We strongly condemn such immoral practices of ruling parties to settle political scores,” he said.
