The divisional commissioner, Patiala, AS Pannu, on Monday announced to form a special cell of the police, NGOs and drug inspectors to check illegal sale of habit-forming drugs. The divisional commissioner, who was chairing the meeting of police officials, NGOs and owners of chemist shops, said the cell would act on secret information provided by the public.

Pannu also asked the SSP to form a special task force of the police personnel to check the trading of habit-forming drugs through couriers and private bus operators. He said that his office would personally keep a tab on the outcome of the police raids. “The raids should be result-oriented and not mere a formality,” he said.

Deputy commissioner GK Singh underlines the need to strengthen the drug de-addiction centres to help those who are hooked to different types of drugs.
