Several scheduled caste students are being forced to give up hopes of pursuing higher education as the Centre has not yet released a Rs-366 crore grant under the post-matric scholarship scheme, the National Scheduled Castes Alliance (NSCA) has alleged.

NSCA president Paramjit Singh Kainth claimed that scholarship funds worth Rs 427 crore had not been released under the scheme, launched in 1998, for the last three years.

"Over the years, the SAD and the Congress have systematically corrupted and smothered the genuine SC leadership in the state and has instead set up a 'pseudo' leadership. There is a deep-rooted conspiracy to prevent the SC community, which comprises more than 35% of the total population, from being educated," alleged Kainth.

However, state government officials claimed that they had contacted the Centre in this regard.
