Good news for the students of Classes 9 and 10 in the government schools of Punjab. The Centre has released Rs 2 crore as grant under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) to send them on educational tours.

Kahan Singh Pannu, director general of school education in Punjab, has confirmed the amount's transfer to the district education officers (secondary), who have orders to put it in school bank accounts. The grant is Rs 200 for each student of the government high and senior secondary schools. The school heads are required to organise the tour between November 15 and December 15.

"The school heads are to send a teacher on tour along with every 25 students," said Pannu. "Two teachers will accompany 25 to 70 students, and three will go with 70 or more." The school heads have the duty of informing the district education officer (secondary) concerned about the tour dates. For transport and entry fee to important places, the cost per student is Rs 150, and for refreshment, it is Rs 50.
