CGC Landran engineering student ends life, third suicide from Mohali in 12 days

A first-year computer science engineering student at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, was found hanging from a fan in her hostel room on Saturday evening.

A first-year computer science engineering student at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, was found hanging from a fan in her hostel room on Saturday evening.

Sources said Sonali Mansi (18) was a native of Bihar and was depressed since the college had declared second semester results on Friday and she had failed in two subjects.

No suicide note was recovered from the room.

However, the police are treating the case as suicide and have registered a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

“She had failed in two subjects in her exams following which she committed

suicide,” said Rajiv Kumar, station house officer Sohana. Mansi had lost her father last year and is survived by her mother and a sister who are on their way to city.

This is the third suicide reported from SAS Nagar over the past two weeks.

On March 5, a 23-year-old nurse Rajveer Kaur, hailing from Chamkaur Sahib, was found hanging at her rented flat at the Punjab Mandi Board colony in Sector 66 in SAS Nagar. The victim was planning to go abroad.

Again on March 3, 15-year-old Harmanjot Singh, a student of Class 9 at Mt Carmel School, Sector 47, Chandigarh, hanged himself at her house in Phase 10, SAS Nagar, after he failed in mathematics in a revision exam at school.
