A 21-day refresher course in Punjabi language, literature and culture concluded at the Academic Staff College of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) here on Monday.
MS Hundal, dean, academic affairs, was the chief guest at the valedictory session, while Jaspal Singh Sandhu, director, Academic Staff College (ASC), welcomed the chief guest and others. Raminder Kaur, course coordinator, gave details about the refresher course and Mohan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
Hundal talked about the challenges being faced by the vernacular languages, especially Punjabi, in the wake of the changing global scenario. He was of the opinion that certain changes are inevitable with the passage of time and one must accept these willingly.
Quoting a few examples, he said it is not possible to distinguish the origin of these words, which have already been thoroughly assimilated in the Punjabi language. He added that learning has always been a life-long process for everyone.
Raminder Kaur counselled the teacher participants on establishing personal rapport with students. She said this is absolutely essential today, especially when cultural, ethical and moral values are waning amongst the younger generation. She hoped that the participants would disseminate the knowledge gained by them to their students.
Sandhu felicitated the participants on the successful completion of the course. He hoped that they must have enhanced their knowledge during these days.
