A resident of Chandigarh was reportedly looted of Rs 1 lakh by an autorickshaw driver and two others here on Saturday.

The victim, Somnath, had gone to Ludhiana to visit an ailing relative.

He hired an autorickshaw from the bus stand to reach Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H), where his relative has been admitted.

"As the financial condition of my kin was not sound, I wanted to help him. Therefore, I carried Rs 1 lakh to pay his hospital bill," said Somnath.

"Besides me and the autorickshaw driver, two more persons were riding in the vehicle. I had kept the cash in the pocket of my trousers. I don't know when they took out the money. The two accused got down near Dandi Swami Chowk.

When I reached the hospital, I found out that my money has been stolen. I raised the alarm, but the autorickshaw driver also fled with his vehicle. I immediately lodged a complaint with the police," he added.

The division no 8 police have registered a case against three unidentified persons, including the autorickshaw driver.

The police have alerted all patrolling parties, PCR motorcycle staff and the traffic wing to nab the accused.

According to sub-inspector Ranjit Singh, station house officer, division no. 8 police, the police have registered a case against the accused and trying hard to arrest them.
