BJP sweeps Chandigarh MC polls, wins 20 seats out of 26

The results for the fifth Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) elections, with 122 in fray for 26 seats, were announced on Monday. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received clear majority by winning 20 seats. Congress party won four seats, while Akali and Independent candidate have won one seat each.

The results for the fifth Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) elections, with 122 in fray for 26 seats, were announced on Monday. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got clear majority by winning 20 seats. Congress party has won four seats, while Akali and Independent candidate have won one seat each.

Ward number 1:
Maheshinder Singh Sidhu won from the ward number 1, defeating Congress candidate Harmohinder Singh Lucky with the margin of 324 votes.

Ward number 2:

Raj Bala Malik, BJP candidate, won by a margin of 965 votes from Ward number 2.

Ward number 3:

Ravi Kant Sharma, BJP candidate, won by a margin of 417 votes.

Ward number 4:

Sunita Dhawan from BJP won by 365 votes, defeating Congress candidate former mayor Poonam Sharma.

Ward number 5:

Sheela Phool Singh from Congress won by a margin of 1861 votes.

Ward number 6:

Farmila from BJP won by a margin of 2156.

Ward number 7:

Rajesh Kumar from BJP won by a margin 486.

Ward number 8:

Mayor Arun Sood from BJP won by 2077 votes.

Ward number 9:

Gurbax Rawat from Congress won by a margin of 2128 votes.

Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Hardeep Singh won from Ward number 10 by a margin of 3542 votes.

Ward number 11:

Satish Kumar from BJP won by 1050 votes.

Ward number 12:

Chanderwati Shukla from BJP won 857 votes.

Ward number 13:

Heera Negi from BJP won by a margin of 1716 votes.

Kanwarjeet Singh Rana of BJP won by 2630 votes.

Ward number 15:

Ravinder Kaur Gujral of Congress defeated its nearest rival by a margin of 71 votes.

Ward number 16:
Rajesh Kumar Gupta from BJP won 121 votes.

Ward number 17:

BJP candidate Asha Kumari Jaswal won, defeating Poonam Moudgil of Congress by 1975 votes

Ward number 18:

Devinder Singh Babla from Congress won by 807 votes.

Anil Kumar Dubey from BJP won by defeating Narsullah Khan of Congress by 9421 votes.

Jagtar Singh from BJP won by a margin of 6495 votes.

BJP candidate Vinod Aggarwal won by a margin of 2204.
