The Chandigarh Press Club, one of the most prominent watering holes of the city, went dry from Tuesday night, nearly a fortnight after it was allowed to sell and serve liquor.

Club president Jaswant Rana said the excise officers said club’s permission as being withdrawn in view of the SC’s order prohibiting sale within 500 meters from the state and national highways.

The club was allowed to sell and serve liquor after the measurement done by excise officers had found the club 507 meters away from the highway, much to the jubilation of journalists. Sales that had plummeted after the ban, began rising immediately.
