The Chandigarh University at Gharuan will offer 300 engineering seats under scholarship-cum-admission test (CU-SAT 2014) to the students who, after passing out their Class-12 examination with non-medical stream, enroll in the university in the next academic session.
These seats will be offered in the streams of computer science, mechanical, electronics and Communication, civil, electrical, petroleum and automobile engineering.
Announcing the details at a press conference here on Saturday, the university vice-chancellor, Dr RS Bawa, said that a scholarship amount of `9 crore has been earmarked for the meritorious students who will qualify in the national-level scholarship test which will be conducted by the Chandigarh University at 58 centres across the country from June 1 onwards.
Dr Bawa said that a national merit list would be announced on June 15, wherein all-India rank of the students would be generated on the basis of their performance in CU-SAT 2014 and an equal weight-age would be given to Class-12 examination board results. He added it would be an online test of one-hour duration, with questions relating to physics, chemistry, mathematics and general English.
Dr Bawa said the test, aimed at promoting merit and talent, would offer 100% scholarship to the first 150 toppers while the next 150 toppers would be given 75% scholarship during their course tenure.
The on-line registration process for CU-SAT 2014 has already begun on the official website of Chandigarh University and the last date for registration is May 25.
The V-C also announced that in addition to the scholarship, Chandigarh University is offering fellowship worth `3 crore to 38 PhD regular students undergoing their research-based doctorate programme in various fields of engineering and management.
The university will be offering a special scholarship scheme for students of the Majha region who enroll in the university. Under this scheme, a student securing 80% or more in their Class-12 board examination would be offered course fee waiver of upto 50%.
He also announced that for wards of defence personnel, seats in all the streams would be reserved along with a provision to get scholarship of upto 15% in the course fee.
