A one-and-half-year old girl fell ill after she was administered polio drops on National Immunization Day here on Sunday. The health department ruled out adverse reaction of the vaccine, although, investigations have begun following the parents' complaint.

A resident of Bhaskar Colony, Sector 25, the girl was administered the vaccine there.  Her parents said she began vomiting following the vaccination. "We brought her to the emergency ward of Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16," said the girl's father, Vijay Kumar.

Following the parents' request, the hospital started an extensive investigation to rule out any polio vaccine adverse reaction.

However, when contacted, district family welfare officer Dr Soma, said the case doesn't look like that of an adverse reaction of polio vaccine, as no other child fell ill. "We are investigating into it as the parents emphasised on it. It looks like some other problem," she added.
