The body of a 16-year-old girl from Morni, who had reportedly eloped with a 17-year-old boy from her school two days ago, was recovered from the forest area on Sunday. Police claim that the two lovers had decided on a suicide pact but the boy had apparently not consumed poison and is now being questioned.

Murder has not been ruled out, according to the police, though for now a case of abetment to suicide was registered on a complaint by the parents of the girl.

Sources in the Chandimandir police said the boy had told them he and the girl were in love against their parents' wishes and had bought Celphos tablets to end their lives. Bur, he said, while the girl died, the tablets did nothing to him. "Had the boy consumed the tablet, there would have been some reaction. But he is absolutely fine. We are investigating, and arrests could be made," said a police official.

The police also recovered the girls' school bag lying next to her body, and are awaiting the post-mortem report of the girl to move further.
