The Chandigarh administration has failed to meet the deadline set by the UT administrator Shivraj Patil to finalise 2031 draft master plan.

On June 30, Patil had directed the officials of the administration to complete the master plan in all respects within eight days. After the completion, the plan would be submitted to the ministry of home affairs (MHA) for approval.

UT finance secretary Sarvjit Singh said that the chief architect Sumit Kaur and her team were yet to submit the master plan after completing it.
The UT authorities started working on the master plan on the directions of the high court and an expert committee was constituted under the chairmanship of chief architect Sumit Kaur to prepare a vision for 2031.

The preparation work started in 2008, but its progress had been marred by delays and the administration had to seek several extensions for its completion.

During the last hearing on May 19, the court pulled up the administration and directed it to complete the master plan at the earliest. The case will come up for hearing on August 4.
