At a glance


Anandpur Sahib parliamentary seat came into existence in 2009 after delimitation. Predominantly a backward constituency, touching the foothills of Himalayas, Religiously important, as it has one of the five Takhts of Sikhs — Shri Keshgarh Sahib — and is the place where Khalsa Panth was established by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.

key factors in this election

Lack of water for irrigation; wild animals (blue bull and wild boar) stray into agriculture fields, damaging crops. Despite the ambitious project depicting history of Punjab and Sikh religion, Virasat-e-Khalsa, the announcement of the Tata cancer hospital, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) (opened at Rupnagar four years ago), the lives of local residents have not changed for the better.

HC tells admn to submit SC representations

The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday directed the Chandigarh administration to place on record all representations received from the Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates on which UT medical education and research secretary, Anil Kumar, had ordered the creation of one NRI SC seat of six for admission to the MBBS course at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.
