Auto driver harasses girl students; arrested

Girl students of a school in Sector 20 here were allegedly being harassed by the auto-rickshaw driver who used to ferry them from home to school over the past week.


This came to light after the principal of the school, following a complaint by the students, approached the police on Saturday. The accused, Hallomajra resident Dharminder Kumar, has been arrested. 

Giving details, police said the school principal alleged that Dharminder used to pass lewd comments at the girls who used to travel in his auto. Police said the students gave their complaint to the principal using a complaint dropbox at the school. In their complaint to the principal, the students also alleged that the driver would try to engage them in conversations of a perverted nature, police said.

The girls ignored the auto driver's comments for a few days, but when he continued to harass them, they submitted a complaint in the school's complaint box on April 5.

The principal, after going through the complaint, informed the police. Dharminder has been booked for obscene acts and songs, under section 294 of the Indian Penal Code. He has been bailed out.

More crime against women
A woman from Haryana alleged that a Maloya resident tried to outrage her modesty. Giving details, police said Pardeep allegedly committed the crime at the ISBT in Sector 17 on Friday. A case of assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty has been registered under section 354-A of the IPC. The accused has been arrested.

In another incident, a city girl alleged that an unknown person allegedly tried to misbehave and threatened her near Sector 22 on Friday. The police have registered a case under section 354 A and 506 of the IPC. Police are making efforts to track down the person on the basis of the clues given by the girl.
