To commemorate 39 years of its existence, the Haryana tourism department will offer 10% discount on food at its tourist resorts on September 1.

Tourism managing director Sumita Misra said in a release on Friday that various competitions for students would be organised on the day at various resorts. Small gifts comprising sweets, balloons and biscuits would be distributed among kids and welcome banners would be put up at all resorts, she said.

She said tourism in the state started with the concept of providing neat and clean lodging and boarding facilities in 1974. Over the years, it has earned a name in the highway, recreation and heritage tourism, she said, adding that it had also launched the concept of farm tourism.

She said for promotion of human resource development, state institutes of hotel management had been set up at Kurukshetra, Panipat, Rohtak and Faridabad.
