Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) president Paramjit Singh Sarna here on Tuesday accused Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of befooling people of the state in the name of religion. Sarna said Badal would resign in protest against the formation of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) as he wanted his son, Sukhbir Badal, to take over as CM.

Addressing a press conference, Sarna said a separate Sikh body was the religious, political and social right of Sikhs.

Sarna said Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar was free to take control of the ‘golak’ (donation box) of gurdwaras, but he should hand over the management of shrines to the Haryana Sikh leadership.

“Excommunicating Jagdish Singh Jhinda, Didar Singh Nalwi and minister Harmohinder Singh Chattha was a political decision,” Sarna alleged.

He claimed that Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh had failed to take stern action against revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia when the latter distorted a hymn from the Gurbani.
