Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has invited former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and civil society activist Kiran Bedi for a meeting on Wednesday next week, following her offer to contribute towards controlling the drug menace in the state.

The state government has already started a campaign against drugs.

Bedi told HT on the phone that she had received an invitation from the CM, who wanted her to play a big role in her home state.

“All stakeholders, including the police, NGOs, civil society, the narcotics control bureau, jail authorities, border agencies, victims, their families and the media need to be involved. I am writing to the Punjab government, particularly the chief minister, to bring all of them on a common platform when we meet next week,” she added.

Bedi said she wanted to work for her home state, which was suffering these days due to the drug problem. “Apart from breaking the supply chain of drug distribution, we need to prevent it from further expanding, besides the treatment and rehabilitation of the victims and their families. So, it has to be a massive exercise,” she said.
