Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday released a book, "Historical Sikh Shrines of Jammu and Kashmir".

The book is the outcome of a collaboration between a Sikh historian, Commodore Dalbir Singh Sodhi of the navy, and Kashmiri publisher Shiekh Ajaz of Gulshan Books, Srinagar. It features visuals of places visited by Guru Nanak, Guru Hargobind and Guru Har Rai.

Giani Swarn Singh Khalsa, who represents the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and is the incharge of the Sikh Mission in Jammu and Kashmir, apprised the CM of some long-pending issues with the state government there.

The CM instructed his principal secretary SK Sandhu to prepare a detailed note on the issues faced by Punjabis in J&K. Badal said he would take up the matter with J&K CM Omar Abdullah to ensure expeditious redressal.

UT to shift complainants to another destitute home

With an aim to thwart any pressure on the inmates of Bal Niketan - a home for orphan girls in Sector 15 - on whose complaint an FIR was lodged against 50-year-old supervisor of the home for sexually harassing them, the UT social welfare department has decided to shift the complainants to another government-run destitute home.
