Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has requested union labour and employment minister Narendra Singh Tomar to reallocate 43 industrial training institutes to the state so that it could give quality skill training to youth in every block.

Badal wrote to Tomar that the Centre had earlier allocated the 43 ITIs in un-serviced blocks in public private partnership (PPP) mode as part of Kaushal Vikas Yojana (KVY) under National Skill Development Mission (NSDM).

He further said that the state government had identified sites for these institutes accordingly and it was ready to comply with the other requirements of the scheme. He was, however, concerned that in a review meeting on December 5, 2013, the Centre had decided to allocate only 22 ITIs to Punjab.

Urging Tomar to reconsider the decision, the CM asked for 43 ITIs instead of 22 so that the state had at least one government or private ITI in every block. "This will bring quality skill training to the youth of Punjab and open vistas of gainful employment for them," he wrote.
