A day after being booked for abetting the suicide of chief general manager with the Punjab National Bank (PNB), posted at the Sector 20 branch, the two seniors of the victim are absconding, the police have claimed.
The victim, Ajay Sehgal, 51, had named PNB field general manager JK Gupta and circle head AK Gupta in the suicide note, claiming that their harassment led him to take the extreme step.
The police claim that the officials have left behind their official cars and their phones were found abandoned in their offices. The officials could also not be found at their residences, the police add.
However, the information from their offices is that the two have reported to work since Thursday and have proceeded on leave.
"We have received the medical examination report of the deceased and have started investigations.
A hunt is also on for the two accused," SHO Government Railway Police station Aman Singh said.Sehgal committed suicide on Wednesday by jumping in front of a train on the Chandigarh-Ambala track near Vikas
Nagar. While the suicide was committed around 4:30 pm, the incident came to light only at about 6 pm, and by then a couple of other trains had passed over the body.
Sehgal's wife Rama has alleged that her husband was being harassed by the two seniors and this was seconded by some colleagues as well.
PNB employees protested against the incident and the alleged harassment that led one of their colleagues to end their life. Most of them claimed that they would not be victims to such harassment at any cost and that seniors did sometimes tend to ride roughshod over subordinates. A meeting was also held outside the PNB Zonal office in Sector 17. Punjab National Bank Officers' Association general secretary Rajinder Wali said, "We support the victim's family and demand the immediate arrest of the accused."
