Colonel Arya Veer, convener of a government- constituted committee that is looking into the gangrape incident of four Dalit girls at Bhagana village, has said sarpanch Rakesh Panghal was not involved in the crime.

The accused have already been arrested and sent to jail, he told the media on Monday.

Col Arya Veer said the aggrieved families did not turn up before the probe panel despite several calls. The panel did not find any evidence, which could hint at the involvement of the sarpanch in the crime.

It may be mentioned that the four families of the victim girls have been raising their voice in Delhi for a long time to get justice. The girls were abducted on March 23, 2014. Five persons have already been arrested but the affected families have been alleging that the village Sarpanch was also involved in the crime.

The state government is ready to allot a plot each to these families in the village but not in Hisar town. The government has also assured them of free education to girls and financial help for their marriages besides giving employment.
Bhagana has been in the news for the last three years over bitterness between Dalits/BCs and Jats.
