The hunger strike by the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) in support of its demand for a CBI inquiry into the multi-crore drug racket entered the second day on Monday.

Congress workers from Majitha and Ajnala constituencies, led by PPCC general secretaries Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lalli Majithia and Harpartap Singh Ajnala, observed a daylong hunger strike at Congress Bhawan here along with former PPCC president Shamsher Singh Dullo.

Agitation coordinator Ashwani Sekhri and PPCC general secretary Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa were also present.
Addressing party workers, Dullo said drug menace had ruined Punjab, adding that the involvement of senior ministers and officers in the racket was a serious issue. He said only a CBI inquiry into the whole racket could expose the influential politicians who were patronising the drug mafia.

Dullo questioned the silence of the BJP, alliance partner of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). He said the BJP was not showing any concern about the plight of people. He asked BJP leaders to come forward and join the agitation by the Congress. He said the BJP had surrendered before the SAD for petty gains.

Dullo said PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa deserved appreciation for leading the party from the front and taking up issues related with public welfare. He said neither the SAD nor the BJP were concerned about reports that 70% of Punjab's youth, including girls, had been using drugs in some form.

He said drug trade could not flourish without the patronisation of police and politicians. He said the people of Punjab had given the mandate to the SAD-BJP for the state's better future, but these parties were playing mischief with the public.

Sekhri said it was the duty of every citizen of Punjab to raise his or her voice against drug menace. He said dharnas by SAD leaders opposing a CBI probe against revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia were another attempt to give political shelter to drug traffickers.

OMG! MSG is finally here

For once, Salman bhai must be having sleepless nights, and Shahrukh Khan must already be counting his days in the industry. PK or no PK, Aamir ‘sincere’ Khan would probably be the only Khan of the troika who would somehow find a way to remain in the industry despite this tsunami. Even Rajinikanth must be mulling retirement after all.Writes Aarish Chhabra
