The murder case of a Derabassi property dealer, Rajesh Bittu, has been handed over to the additional director general of police (ADGP)-crime for reinvestigation.
While handing over the case, director general of police (DGP) Sumesh Saini directed the ADGP (crime) to submit the report within a week.

Meanwhile, family of the deceased has given an ultimatum to the Derabassi municipal council for the removal of encroachment on the street by main accused Rakesh Mehta.

The local police had arrested four persons, including Mehta, on the charge killing Bittu on February 14. Though seven persons - Mehta, Shiv Tony, Joga, Rakesh, Ranbir, Gurmail and Harbhajan - were named in the FIR, the police had arrested only Mehta, giving a clean chit to the rest.

Family of the deceased had been demanding the arrest of rest of the accused.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the police investigations, Bittu's family, led by Congress leader Manpreet Kaur Dolly, met DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and urged reinvestigation in the case.
The DGP has marked an inquiry to the ADGP (crime). However, Dolly said the family would demand for a CBI inquiry if they were deprived of justice.

Meanwhile, on the complaint about encroachment by Mehta, MLA Narinder Sharma had directed the municipal authorities to remove it 10 days ago. Though the municipal body issued notices to the encroachers, no action had been taken so far in this regard.

Bittu's brothers Vipan and Ramesh warned authorities of holding a protest before the DMC office on Tuesday if they failed to remove the encroachment.
