Infighting in the Chandigarh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to the fore once again on Wednesday during a workers' meet wherein a number of workers alleged that party leader, Satya Pal Jain had not consulted others while recommending the names of counting agents to the election department.

The party has given a list of 28 party workers who would work as counting agents on May 16 for party's candidate, Kirron Kher.

The list is given to the returning officer concerned of the constituency either by candidate or her election agent. Jain did so in his capacity as the election agent of Kher. Party sources said a meeting in the first week of May was convened by party chief, Sanjay Tandon, wherein it was decided that before recommending the names of the counting agents, a meeting would be held.

"Jain did not consult Tandon and recommended 28 names after discussing with the party candidate," a BJP leader said adding that in a party with presidential system, the president was kept in loop on such matters.

The issue was raised in a meeting attended by party affairs in-charge, Chandigarh, Aarti Mehra and Sanjay Tandon and senior BJP leader, Harmohan Dhawan.

Jain did not attend the meeting. Kirron Kher, who also reportedly is in Chandigarh, did not attend the meeting called by Mehra to thank workers for their support during the elections.

Both Tandon and Jain refused to comment on the issue of Jain sending list of counting agents on his own to the returning officer.
