Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday informed Shakeel Ahmed, the newly-appointed in-charge of party affairs for Punjab (besides Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh) about the textbook and science kit scam in which the alleged role of Punjab education minister Sikander Singh Maluka is being scrutinised by the fact-finding team of the union human resource development (HRD) ministry.

Jakhar met Ahmed in New Delhi and told him how a major portion of the funds released by the central government under various welfare schemes had been misused by the SAD-BJP government.
"The funds were either not used for the prescribed purpose or misused to benefit political workers," Jakhar told Ahmed.

Jakhar said the fact-finding committee constituted by the HRD ministry that had visited the state and scrutinised relevant records had said that a comprehensive audit needed to be done to find out to what extent Rs. 1837.76 crore received by the Punjab government was misappropriated.

Jakhar invited Ahmed to Punjab to boost the morale of the people who appeared to be ready to teach the "corrupt and inefficient" SAD BJP alliance a lesson in the next Lok Sabha elections.
