BTech student arrested for rape

A day after a rape case was registered against a BTech student for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman after promising to marry her, the police arrested the accused here on Wednesday.

The accused, who hails from Una, was identified as 22-yearold Harshid.

Investigation officer said he confessed to having a physical relation with the victim when they were in a relationship. During interrogation, he also revealed that the duo toured several places alone, and their family members were aware of their relationship.

Victim’s father said he asked the accused to marry his daughter, but he refused saying that his’ was not ‘the appropriate age to marry’, police reported.

The police produced him before a local court from where he was sent to two-day police remand.

In the victim’s complaint to the police, she said she came in contact with Harshid in her hometown, Nangal. As they developed a relationship a year ago, Harshid asked her to move to SAS Nagar and work there, so they could meet conveniently, she added.

Therefore, she moved to SAS Nagar in October 2013and started working with a private firm.

Eventually, Harshid took her to his sister’s place, where he promised to marry her and established physical relations with her.However, he backed out later, the victim alleged.
